HOME PAGE How to clean the fireplace

There are two types of fireplaces at the Renaissance:

The Single Type                                                                                                                    The Double Type (see-thru)
(One fireplace for one room)                                        (One fireplace shared between two rooms)

How To – Clean the Single Type Fireplaces.

1) Turn off the switch that operates the fireplace. It is okay if the pilot light remains on during the cleaning just be careful not to spray cleaning products near the flame.

2) Remove the brass trim at the top of the fireplace by simply pulling it from the retaining clip.

3) There are three brass trim pieces that need to be removed.

3) Inside you will see two door latches. (Some units have three)

4) Pull the handle towards you and then push it away from you to unlatch the door. Be careful as this will release the glass door and it could fall forward.

5) Pull the top of the glass door towards you.

6) Lift the door up and it will release from the frame.

7) Glass can be cleaned to remove any film (which is a normal biproduct of combustion) which may be visible. Clean with a non-abrasive cleaner. One of the most effective products is Kel Kem.

8) Vacuum the upper compartment as well as the logs.

9) Open up the bottom of the control box by simply pulling the top of the trim towards you. The hinged door will swing down. Vacuum carefully inside.

10) Insert the three tabs on the bottom of the glass door into their slots on the frame.

11) Carefully repeat the process to latch the door.

12) The brass trim can be snapped back onto the retaining clips. For aesthetics align the trim pieces evenly.
